Introduction
The Tamagotchi 4U's central gameplay conceit is that of skill and discipline. The first two options in the Care menu are, after all, Praise and Scold, respectively, and there is an entire page of the Tamagotchi's profile dedicated to the skills they've learned.
Skills must be learned for each Tamagotchi raised; they do not transfer across generations.
Child Skills
As a baby, no skills can be taught; skills begin to be available once the Tamagotchi ages up to a child. As a child, the Tamagotchi can learn potty training, cleaning, and personal hygiene. These skills can no longer be learned as an adult.
- To successfully potty train the child, one must send it to the toilet three times before it goes on the floor. During valid times to send it to the toilet, the Tamagotchi will have a thought bubble with the icon for the potty training skill, which features a pile of poo. Go to the bath icon and select the first option in order to have the Tamagotchi use the toilet. While the Tamagotchi does not alert the player before or after going on the floor, the window to send them to the toilet is much wider, and the infamous "wiggles" only happen during the baby stage. Once the toilet has been used three times, the Tamagotchi is potty trained and no longer goes on the floor.
- To successfuly teach the child to clean its room, one must check the device between 6:00 PM (18:00) and 6:30 PM (18:30). The child will play with wooden blocks and leave them strewn across the floor, and will now have a thought bubble with the icon for the cleaning skill. Go to the bath icon and select the third option, and the Tamagotchi will clean the floor of blocks. Then, praise it. This must be done twice to teach the Tamagotchi how to clean its room.
- To successfuly teach the child personal hygiene, one must check the device between 7:00 PM (19:00) and 7:30 PM (19:30). The child will have a thought bubble with the icon for the personal hygiene skill. Go to the bath icon and select the second option, and the child will take a bath and brush its teeth. Then, praise it. This must be done twice to teach the Tamagotchi personal hygiene.
Adult Skills
As an adult, the Tamagotchi can learn five different skills, none of which are the same as the child skills. To learn a given adult skill, one must buy two specific items from the TamaDepa toys section and then go to the school (third option from the door icon). Tamagotchis learn adult skills at varying speeds depending on their species.
All classes need one to own the Study Set, as the first three lectures are theory lectures.
All lectures after those are practical labs, and require specific items depending on the subject. Science requires the Experiment Kit, Fashion requires the Makeup Box, Gym requires the Soccer Ball, Art requires the Modeling Clay, and Cooking requires the Frying Pan.
Learning these skills is useful because, when pressing B to go out to the yard, sometimes characters will come by who need your Tamagotchi to make them an item. The quality of the item your Tamagotchi makes depends on whether or not they've mastered the necessary skill, and if they succeed, they will be rewarded.
